Rhode Islanders are now able to apply online for a medical cannabis license.
The Rhode Island Department of Health announced on Thursday the launch of the Rhode Island Cannabis Licensing Portal. This portal allows existing card holders to renew registrations, update their personal information, and make any necessary changes to existing registration cards.
Portal users can also request cards for new patients. For more information, caregivers should contact the Department of Business Regulation Office of Cannabis Regulation.
According to a spokesperson for the department, the web-based portal would reduce processing times and eliminate the need for paper documents. Until now, registration was done entirely on paper.
Joseph Wendelken, spokesperson for the Department, said that RIDOH will no longer be mailing out registration reminders or renewal forms after the implementation of its online portal.

Wendelken stated in a press release that it is important for patients to create an account on the portal in order to receive important messages from RIDOH. This includes renewal reminders at least 60 days prior expiration.
RIDOH Medical Marijuana Program can be reached at (401-222-3752) for participants whose registrations expire within the next 14-days. Other questions should be emailed to doh.mmp@health.ri.gov.
