Bipartisan leaders in the Congressional Cannabis Caucus reacted after Health and Human Services Sec. Xavier Becerra said that the Biden Administration hopes to complete its marijuana scheduling review before the end of this calendar year.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, (D), signed a bill that streamlines expungements of first-time marijuana possession convictions.

California Senator who sponsored a bill legalizing possession of psychedelics said his Senate passed measure faces “challenging roads” to passage in the Assembly. The first hearing will be held on June 27.

According to a study by the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, youth marijuana usage declined in 2022 despite COVID social restrictions and legalization taking effect.

Due to possible inconsistencies with the scoring system, the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission has delayed issuing licenses for dispensaries and other businesses.

Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), a California Democrat, tweeted that he met with Marc Fogel’s family this morning. Marc Fogel is a 62-year-old American teacher who faces a 14-year sentence of hard labor in a Russian penal colony because he had only a small amount medical marijuana. We all wish to see Mr. Fogel return to the U.S. soon.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-TX, tweeted: “I’m proud to unveil the Douglas ‘Mike’ Day Psychedelic Treatment to Save Lives act, surrounded with supporters who know how vital this is for treating service members suffering from PTSD & TBI.” It’s time to think outside of the box – our servicemen deserve it.

A new sponsor has been added to the House bill that funds Department of Defense research on psychedelics. The total is now 13.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, said that he hopes to have a new Office of Cannabis Management in place by the fall.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, praised the enforcement measures taken against marijuana businesses without a license. Separately a senator said he voted against marijuana legalization because the state was “not ready”.

Rhode Island lawmakers sent Gov. Dan McKee’s (D) bill would allow marijuana advertising.

North Carolina’s House Speaker said that medical cannabis legalization is “certainly a priority for a number members,” but “there are also other members who have concern with it. I think we need flesh it out.”

Wisconsin’s Senate Minority Leader tweeted that the news of a aspirational deadline for completing a federal marijuana schedule review is “an important step.” But I will not stop working to #LegalizeIt here in #Wisconsin.”

The New Jersey Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee has approved a bill that will ban the sale menthol cigarettes. Separately a senator has filed legislation that would reinstate penalties for the possession, consumption and use of alcohol and marijuana by minors.

Illinois representatives and cannabis stakeholders met to discuss plans for formulating legislation to regulate intoxicating products of hemp.

A Kentucky representative praised his role in causing a delay to the implementation date of the new state medical cannabis law.

Oregon regulators approved temporary regulations requiring marijuana retailers in Oregon to obtain certificates of compliance with tax laws.

Alaska regulators accept public comments on proposed rules changes concerning the rejection or revoking of acceptance of marijuana products as well as rules on transportation.

Maryland regulators have temporarily relaxed the tracking rules for medical cannabis due to problems with a state-run system.

Virginia regulators have sent out guidance regarding new hemp products rules that will take effect on July 1, 2018.

California Legislative Analyst’s Office has published a report regarding tax exemptions on donated medical cannabis.

According to a study, “psilocybin has a positive effect on grief trajectories of participants through subjective increases in acceptance, feelings, positive emotions and values-congruent lifestyle, spirituality. Participants also report greater comfort with death, as well as an increase in their ability to resolve internal conflict relating to bereavement.”

The study concluded that “opioid seizures by law enforcement were significantly related to increased spatial and temporal clustering of overdoses.”
