Sherrod Brown, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee (D-OH), and Steve Daines, the main GOP marijuana banking bill’s sponsor (R-MNT), seem to be at odds on what must happen before a vote in the committee can take place to send the SAFE Banking Act up for a floor vote. Time is running out until the August recess. A senior Republican Senate aide has told Marijuana Moment the “main issue”, which is holding up the SAFE Banking Act, is a Democratic Senator’s desire to amend Section 10 and not any social justice amendments that progressives may want.

A number of members of Congress have testified to the House Rules Committee regarding their amendments on marijuana, psychedelics, and drug policies in the National Defense Authorization Act. However the decision about whether the amendments will be voted upon is delayed due to a separate controversy.
Former White House Office of National Drug Control Policy acting director Regina LaBelle said the U.S. could learn a lot from Portugal’s “pioneering law” on drug decriminalization, saying it “yielded a positive result” and “save[d] life.”
The North Carolina House Speaker has declared that a medical cannabis bill passed by the Senate is dead for this year.

The study found that there were no statistically significant differences in the prevalence of cannabis use in the past 30 days before and after the legalization of cannabis among adolescents, but “there was a rise in the percentage of adolescents reporting any perceived parental cannabis use” from before to after the legalization.
The review concluded that “rapid improvement in various symptoms” was seen, that “the strongest evidence for psilocybin’s use was found when treating anxiety and depression associated with life-threatening diseases and tobacco addiction,” and that there were “no reports of serious adverse effects.”
