Proponents are concerned that a state-run cannabis monopoly will force growers to accept prices set by regulators.

A survey is being conducted by an industry group to gauge the interest of farmers and agricultural professionals in future opportunities for cultivation.
New Hampshire still hasn’t legalized marijuana but the past legislative session was more active than previous years. For the first, Gov. Chris Sununu, a Republican, said that he would be in favor of a model for legalization where the state is responsible for sales and messaging. Sununu has said he will not veto the bill, which would create the first retail cannabis markets in the United States.
New Hampshire Cannabis Association is interested in knowing where farmers, and other agricultural workers would fit into this equation. Advocates are concerned that a state monopoly could force New Hampshire cannabis growers to accept state-set prices because the state would be the only buyer. It is illegal to transport and sell cannabis across state borders.
In the NHCANN Survey, respondents are asked if legalization is something they support and if becoming a licensed grower of cannabis is something they’re interested. The survey also asks respondents if they agree with legalization and if they’re interested in becoming a licensed cannabis grower.
The commission charged with drafting legislation for the year 2024 and reworking the fine print of the state-run model is composed of 10 legislators and representatives of the Attorney General’s Office, New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police (NHAP), New Hampshire Bankers Association (NHBA), New Hampshire Liquor Commission (NHLC), American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), New Hampshire Medical Society and Communities for Alcohol and Drug Free Youth.
NHCANN announced that the survey would be open until the end of September, and the results would be presented to a newly formed commission.
