Arkansas has already made $23.5 million in medical marijuana tax revenue this year, and is on track to set a new record.

According to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, medical marijuana sales in Arkansas generated $23.5 million in taxes this year.

According to the DFA, patients purchased medical marijuana worth $211,3 million in the first nine months 2023. This is up from $205 millions during the same period of time in 2022.

This year, more than 44,000 pounds of cannabis were sold. Statistic data shows that the state’s dispensaries have sold 5,227 pounds of marijuana in August, and 5,538 pounds in September.

Scott Hardin, spokesperson for the DFA, said that “overall, patients spent more than 965 million dollars on medical marijuana since May 2019 when the industry was launched.” This included $31 in 2019, $182 in 2020, 265 in 2021, and $276 in 2022, as well as $211 in September of this year. We are on track to achieve a new record for sales this year with monthly sales of $23.4 million.

According to the DFA, since 2019, the state has collected over $113 million tax revenue.

Medical marijuana cards are now being issued to more patients than ever before, with the number rising from 89 855 in 2009 to 96 056 today. The $50 fee is paid by both patients and caregivers to obtain a card. According to the Arkansas Department of Health, caregivers pay an extra $37 for a criminal background check.
