Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-OR, a founding member of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus and a co-chair for that group’s first election in 2014 announced he would not run again. His co-chairs from the caucus, as well as outside advocates, spoke with Marijuana Moment to discuss his legacy and how he will carry the torch forward.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has announced that it will dramatically increase the amount marijuana compounds, psychedelics such as psilocybin, and ibogaine which can be produced for research this year. This is on top of previous massive expansions.

The House Rules Committee will be considering amendments that would remove the prohibition on marijuana sales in Washington, D.C., and end the practice whereby federal job applicants are drug tested for cannabis.

Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management has taken the first step in crafting regulations for the newly-legal marijuana market by conducting a public survey to gather input from the public on topics such as technical considerations of cultivation, processing, and manufacturing.

The Pennsylvania House Health Committee has approved a bill passed by the Senate that allows licensed medical marijuana grower/processors to sell cannabis directly to patients in Pennsylvania. A new amendment also restricts ownership transfers.

A coalition of advocacy organizations including Reason Foundation Law Enforcement Action Partnership, Students for Sensible Drug Policy and Students for Sensible Drug Policy has published a new “Drug Legalization Handbook”, which offers perspectives on the regulation of drugs in a post-prohibition environment.

The federal judge has denied the request of hemp businesses for an injunction to stop Virginia’s strict cannabinoid products law.

Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration reported that the state had generated $23.5 Million in medical cannabis tax revenues so far in 2023. An official said “we remain on course to set a record sales this year.”

Drug Enforcement Administration accepts public comments on non-incineration techniques to destroy controlled substances.

Rep. Dina Titus, D-NV, tweeted: “My Higher Education Marijuana Research Act will eliminate barriers to studies on cannabis. It also creates entities within @NIH and at @DEAHQ that can assist researchers. I applaud NIH’s announcement of a new resource center for research that achieves many of my goals.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), tweeted: “Entrepreneurs who follow the laws. New York is dedicated to building the most equitable legal cannabis sector in the country — and we will do it right.”

A representative from Oklahoma said that he would probably no longer sponsor medical cannabis reform legislation, because the issue has “become so toxic.”

A judge in Alabama denied the request of medical cannabis companies for a temporary restraint order regarding the scoring system used by regulators to determine business license applications.

Utah regulators have published rules on home delivery of medical cannabis.

Colorado regulators propose to prohibit marijuana businesses from participating at unlicensed events.

Kentucky regulators have hired a top official in the field of medical cannabis compliance and enforcement.
