A group of Wisconsin legislators from both parties have filed a bill to decriminalize marijuana, which they hope will be passed in the session of 2024.
The new California and Washington State marijuana laws that will take effect on January 1, 2019 will offer new protections to consumers of marijuana in the workplace.
John Hopkins University has announced a large-scale study which will follow 10,000 medical cannabis users for a period of one year or longer to investigate dosing methods, delivery methods and chemical compositions of products, among other issues. The study is supported by a federal grant worth $10 million from the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
The top international cannabis policy changes for 2023 include the legalization of marijuana in countries such as Germany, Colombia and Luxembourg.
In 2023, the psychedelics reform movement achieved historic victories, including federal research legislation becoming law, state-legal access to psilocybin, a congressional hearing for the first time, and an FDA application legalizing MDMA.

Senate Banking Committee Democrats listed the passage of a marijuana banking bill by their panel as one of 2023’s highlights.
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), tweeted: “A historic move by @POTUS pardoning federal marijuana possession charges, something I’ve worked towards for years.” It’s not just about ensuring that policy is in line with reality, but also about correcting historical injustices against Black Americans.

Ohio’s lieutenant-governor is calling for lawmakers to put in place “safeguards”, so that recreational marijuana can be legalized. Separately regulators recalled medical cannabis edibles due to defective tamper evident seals.
A New Hampshire representative tweets: “Spent a day chatting with cannabis farmers in Maine as preparation for my therapeutic homegrown bill. Fascinating discussion, learned so much. Cannabis used for therapeutic purposes is a medicine. “Let’s protect the program in NH.”
Mississippi regulators have announced that medical cannabis products placed on administrative hold will be retested.
Alabama regulators face challenges from several companies who were denied licenses to operate medical cannabis businesses. However, they plan on issuing licenses this Friday unless the court steps in.
Vermont regulators have published revised guidance regarding marijuana product registration.
Missouri regulators have extended a variation for the testing of vitamin E acetate content in cannabis products.
On Monday, the Cannabis Control Authority will take over control of Virginia’s Medical Marijuana Program.
On Monday, several revisions to Oklahoma’s medical cannabis laws go into effect.
