The Village of Taos Ski Valley, in Taos County, New Mexico, has approved its first marijuana license. A local shop is now ready to start.
Steve Weiner, the owner of Bighorn, said that they started as a first-time delivery service when they were renovating an old building located in a historic area of town.
Bighorn Weed officially opened its doors last spring in Taos.
We quickly caught up and now are one of Taos’s highest-grossing marijuana dispensaries. Weiner said that it depends on the month. But we are doing well.
The farm products and cannabis are sourced locally.
Weiner said, “I wanted to sell local marijuana because I’ve always supported small local farms.”
Weiner has expanded his business by allowing deliveries inside the Taos Ski Valley, a first in the area.
Weiner said that “since we had successfully completed a pilot delivery last year and worked out all the kinks, got licensed, and just figured out how to do it, we could now offer daily delivery.”
Weiner stated that the village does not have a dispensary and the nearest one is 30 miles away.
Weiner said that the flexible business model allows Weiner to service markets where there is no dispensary. This helps not only local farmers, but also our community.
He is proud to have been the first one to do it.
Weiner said, “These are really cool milestones in the industry’s continued maturation. We’re happy to be on the cutting edge of this here in Taos.”
He said that the delivery aspect of his business is a huge success for those with medical cannabis cards who do not have transportation.
