ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE), a district court judge has ordered Sawmill Sweet Leaf LLC to cease operations. State regulators claimed that the shop was violating the state’s marijuana regulations and was a threat to the community.
The Cannabis Control Division (CCD), says that they found evidence of “serious violation” in the shop at 1501 Mountain Drive NW. CCD claims that Sawmill Sweet Leaf LLC sold cannabis products from out-of state which may not have been tested properly. The CCD says that the company used an extraction system which posed a risk of fire and explosion.
Sawmill Sweet Leaf LLC must immediately cease cannabis-related activities in accordance with the judge’s ruling. The business may then attend a formal CCD hearing to discuss these issues.
In a press statement, Superintendent Linda Trujillo of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing department said that “this decision underscores the importance to adhere to legal regulations and ensure public safety in the cannabis industry.” It serves as a warning that businesses need to operate within the limits of the law in order to protect their customers and maintain the integrity the industry.
Cannabis Control Division is working to enforce the cannabis regulations in this relatively new industry. The regulators in New Mexico are also considering increasing the requirements for obtaining a cannabis business licence.
Editor’s note: According to regulators, Sawmill Sweet Leaf LLC does not have any connection with other cannabis businesses that share the same name.
