Celebrities, Brands and Organizations Celebrate the Marijuana Holiday with New Campaigns and Products

April 20, 2023 by Kyle Jaeger

The unofficial marijuana holiday, 4/20, is back. As has become tradition, many brands, celebrities, and organizations use the day to promote cannabis themed campaigns and products.

Some of the more mainstream brands are joining the festivities, including Red Lobster and Jack in the Box.

As more states legalize marijuana and as markets expand across the nation, U.S. brands seem more open to embracing 4/20 and tapping into their consumer base despite federal prohibition.

Jack in the Box’s CMO Ryan Ostrom said Adweek that some brands “dip their toes in 4/20″ with a lighter implementation–something done with a wink or a nod.” The fast food chain announced its partnership with Weedmaps in honor of this year’s holiday. “We want quick-service restaurants to own this moment.”

Darin Dugan , CMO of Jimmy John’s, said, that the chain’s bold and irreverent character allows us to “have some fun in 4/20 space which not all brands are able to do.” This will include marketing a “Munchie Crusher”, as well as a special-edition wrapping rolling paper, at a live event on Thursday.
