Colorado Governor Calls for Mass Psychedelics pardons at Event that Also featured Former GOP Texas Gov.

June 22, 2023 by Kyle Jaeger

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, is asking lawmakers to allow him to pardon people who have had prior convictions for psychedelics. The state is preparing to implement regulations on the legal use of substances such as psilocybin or ibogaine.

The former Texas Governor, as well as the current governor of Colorado, spoke at the MAPS Psychedelic Science 2023 Conference in Denver on Tuesday. Rick Perry (R), who is a Republican, spoke about the therapeutic benefits of entheogenic fungi and plants. He advocated for legal access.

Polis, who signed a psychedelics regulation bill in order to honor the voters’ will who approved the legalization ballot initiative of last year, stated that he wished to be the leader on psychedelics mercy. He also believes the substances should be covered by federal health insurance programs.

Axios reports that the governor wants to pardon anyone who has a criminal record which is now legal.

He said that “it’s still ridiculous that someone suffering from anxiety or depression can get coverage in the present day for expensive prescription drugs, but not for treatment at a healing centre that addresses some of the root causes of the problem.”

Governor Hickenlooper also asked the Colorado legislature to pass a bill that would automatically update Colorado law if federal rules on psilocybin were revised. He said that this could lead to insurance coverage of psychedelic therapy.

“Yes, that’s right. No one will need to travel to Mexico or Colombia. They can come here in Colorado,” he added, adding that his support for psychedelics is “value-based.”

“I’m sure that we will make some mistakes, but we can build on them and learn from them.”

Perry and Polis may be on opposite sides of the political spectrum on certain issues, but this event showed that psychedelics wasn’t one.

The former Texas Governor also made a comparison between him and Rick Doblin, the previous speaker.

You’ve seen the Light. Perry played on the fact that Doblin wore all-white while Perry was in black. “It’s a little bit magical that we are together.”

The congressman recently spoke about a href=”https://www.marijuanamoment.net/gop-congressman-says-psychedelic-therapy-with-ibogaine-changed-my-life-as-lawmakers-push-military-research/” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>his own experience receiving psychedelics treatment/a> and also a href=” The congressman spoke recently about his experience with psychedelics, and secured a research amendment as part of Wednesday’s military bill.

According to Westword, Perry stated: “The reason that I am here today — and hopefully many of you as well — is because you had courage to realize that your reputation was not more important than the lives of these young people.” Let’s see what the results show. We shouldn’t listen to what the government says. “Let’s not listen to what someone tells us about right and wrong.”

He said, “Nobody’s political reputation matters more than the lives we can save.” “That is why I am with you today, advocating the availability of psychedelic drugs.”

Perry, who surprised many after advocating a Texas bill in order to mandate studies into the medical uses of psychedelics by veterans in 2021 — also spoke during the Strength In Numbers gala hosted by Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions.

Eapen Thampy, a lobbyist who works on psychedelic treatments, told Marijuana Moment that Perry, as one of America’s conservative and prominent retired Governors, has the potential to reach a consensus on the need to expand access to psychedelic therapies in the United States.
