According to the Congressional Research Service, marijuana businesses are “heavily reliant” on cash transactions because they lack banking access. This makes them a prime target for thieves.

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green (D), who called the federal government “wacko”, said that legalizing marijuana would help “blunt out” the effects of “other horrible drugs”.

Both the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates will vote on competing bills that legalize recreational marijuana now that they have both cleared their final committee stop.

South Carolina Senate continues to debate a medical marijuana bill. Lawmakers are at odds over whether or not the current version differs significantly from the earlier version that was passed by the Senate in 2022.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (DMA) tweeted: “It is time to end federal prohibition on marijuana.”

Rep. Frank Pallone, D-NJ tweeted: “I support the Biden Administration’s ongoing efforts at reassessing marijuana and @HHSGov’s recommendation to @DEAHQ to reschedule it–there is simply no reason for it to be classified as heroin.”

Rep. Jared Golden, (D-ME), tweeted: “Chinese organised crime has no place here in ME.” It’s for this reason that @senangusking, myself and 50 other lawmakers are leading a bipartisan coalition to pressure the DOJ on answers and action regarding these illegal marijuana operations across the nation and in our state.

Hawaii House Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs Committee has approved a bill to expunge cannabis from the state’s criminal records.

The Florida House Health and Human Services Committee has delayed a hearing to introduce a preemptive potency cap for recreational marijuana, in the event that voters approve an initiative to legalize it in November.

Delaware’s Joint Finance Committee heard agency budget requests relating to the implementation of marijuana legalization.

A subcommittee of the Iowa House held an hearing to discuss a bill that would restrict hemp-based products for consumption.

A senator from Illinois has filed a bill that amends the rules for background checks on medical cannabis businesses.

A Massachusetts judge denied a petition by the state’s top marijuana regulator who was suspended, allowing the state treasurer the freedom to set up a meeting which could result in her termination.

The Vermont Supreme Court will be deciding the case of an ex-state Department of Labor employee who claims he was wrongfully denied unemployment benefits because he used medical marijuana.

Oklahoma officials are being sued for their safety inspection requirements of medical cannabis businesses.

California regulators have published guidelines on cannabis products embargoes.

New York regulators published a monthly update of enforcement actions taken against marijuana businesses that are not licensed.

The Colorado Retail Marijuana Public Health Advisory Committee meets on Monday.
