The Senate Intelligence Committee has approved legislation that will protect applicants to CIA, NSA, and other agencies against being denied clearances based solely on past marijuana use.

The House of Representatives unanimously adopted a resolution that expressed “continued” support for U.S. Citizen Marc Fogel who is currently being held in Russia on a “politicized and excessive sentence” for an alleged crime of possessing medical marijuana.

Wisconsin’s Republican Assembly Speaker says that lawmakers are drafting a medical marijuana legalization bill which could be filed by the summer. But a top Democrat told Marijuana Moment her party had not been invited to any meetings.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse wants to fund research on psychedelics decriminalization and legalization in cities and state across the nation, including the effects of allowing controlled access to substances such as psilocybin.

Federal

On June 29, the National Institute of Justice is hosting an event on “the merger of the ecigarette and cannabis industries”.

One new co-sponsor has been added to the eight who have already signed on as sponsors of the House bill repealing the law that prohibits people with drug convictions from participating in hemp industries.

A new sponsor has been added to the House bill that eases restrictions on hemp farmers.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Shealey (D), Massachusetts Governor, has recommended pardoning a small number of people.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), Texas Governor, signed a law allowing prosecutors the ability to charge murder against sellers of Fentanyl in cases where their customers overdose and die.

Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R), a Republican, claimed that “legalizing marijuana has many unintended consequences.”

A representative from Ohio spoke on his bill to legalize marijuana.

A judge in Arkansas has voided 27 laws relating to medical cannabis, stating that lawmakers exceeded their authority by changing the constitutional amendment which legalized patient access.

A member of New York’s Cannabis Control Board has resigned amid criticism of the role played by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (the agency he heads) in the slow expansion of legal dispensary sites. Separately regulators approved more retail licenses.

Arizona regulators have announced a voluntary marijuana recall due to possible contamination by aspergillus or salmonella.

Michigan regulators have revoked the license of a marijuana-related business due to several alleged infractions.

Colorado regulators accept public feedback regarding improvements to the Cannabis Social Equity Program.

Oregon regulators will be considering proposed rules regarding the deadline by which CBN manufacturers must meet general requirements this Friday.

Iowa’s Medical Cannabidiol Board meets on Friday.

Tennessee’s Medical Cannabis Commission meets on Friday.

The Massachusetts Cannabis Social Equity Advisory Board meets on Friday.

International

The Colombian Senate discussed but did not vote on the marijuana legalization legislation. It is expected that next week, they will resume their discussion.

A UK Member of Parliament asked the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs about the Government’s refusal to give assent to a Cannabis Bill in Bermuda.

Himachal Pradesh’s Indian finance minister stated that the majority of people he met in a group with lawmakers favor legalizing cannabis.

SCIENCE AND HEALTH

According to a study, “prescriptions of [cannabis based medicinal products] for those with [generalized anxious disorder] are associated with clinically-significant improvements in anxiety and an acceptable safety profile within a real world setting.”

The study concluded that respondents who live closest to legal shops are more likely to buy cannabis from them, while those who don’t or grow their own cannabis are less likely.

The Albuquerque Journal’s editorial board has criticized the New Mexico regulators new cannabis public awareness campaign. It said it effectively amounts “pro-pot advertisements.”
