Top Things to Know

The State Department has released a new report that notes the increased tolerance of government for the religious use marijuana in certain countries. However, it ignores U.S. laws which criminalize cannabis and do not allow any spiritual or sacramental exceptions.

California Senate has passed a bill that legalizes possession of psychedelics such as psilocybin DMT ibogaine mescaline.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, signed a law to regulate psychedelics in accordance with a ballot initiative that was approved by voters.

New Hampshire residents are still in favor of legalizing marijuana, but their opinions on Gov. Sununu’s plan are mixed. Chris Sununu (R) plans to sell cannabis through state-run shops.

Minnesota’s Departments of Information Technology Services, Health and Agriculture, have launched a Request for Proposals to develop a system of marijuana business licensing, even though Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, hasn’t signed the marijuana legalization bill yet.

Ohio’s bipartisan representatives have filed a bill that would legalize marijuana. This legislation is being introduced as activists collect signatures for a cannabis legalization ballot initiative to be placed on the November ballot.

Dama Financial has revised its testimony regarding a marijuana banking law after receiving criticism from stakeholders. The company was initially accused of telling senators during an hearing to “pause” the bill in order to look at amendments.

Federal

The deputy director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health tweeted about funding and resources for cannabis-related research.

The Drug Enforcement Administration Museum has posted a video on a gold-and-diamond grill that the agency confiscated from a drug smuggler via asset forfeiture.

Sen. Tina Smith, D-MN tweeted: “Minnesota legalizes cannabis but this is not the end of the movement.” The racist legacy of the War on Drugs and our country’s failed prohibition on marijuana still have devastating effects on Black and Brown communities across the nation. “We need to legalize cannabis federally.”

A total of 29 people have now co-sponsored the House marijuana banking legislation.

One new sponsor has been added to the nine co-sponsors of the House bill repealing the 280E penalty tax on marijuana businesses.

As the end of session nears on Monday, Texas’ lieutenant governor has yet to schedule bills passed by the House that decriminalize marijuana and expand medical cannabis for Senate consideration.

Oklahoma lawmakers sent Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican from Oklahoma, introduced a bill that would restrict non-citizens’ land ownership. The goal was to stop illegal marijuana growing operations run by foreigners.

Delaware’s Joint Finance Committee has approved funding and new government positions for the implementation of marijuana legalization.

Maryland legislators spoke about their efforts to draft marijuana legalization legislation.

A Louisiana representative discusses her bill that would provide employment protections to medical cannabis patients.

California’s legal cannabis revenues for the first quarter 2023 were $216.2 millions.

Oregon regulators seek additional funding to support the implementation of its psilocybin service program.

The study on rats showed that non-psychoactive cannabinoid based pharmacotherapy could provide therapeutic benefits for the treatment orofacial discomfort associated with pulp exposure.

/ ADVOCACY, OPINION AND ANALYSIS

Drug Policy Alliance and Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights sent a letter to Joe Biden, expressing their “disappointment,” with the support of the administration for a bill that will increase penalties on fentanyl. The House is voting on this bill this week.

BUSINESS

Cresco Labs, Inc. reported a quarterly net revenue $194.2 millions and a loss of $27.8million.

The Securities and Exchange Commission shut down WeedGenics for an alleged “Ponzi scheme.”

Agrify Corporation received a notification that it did not meet Nasdaq listing requirements because it had not filed its quarterly report in time.
