According to the latest data released by the Office of Cannabis Policy, Maine marijuana sales hit a record in August with purchases totaling nearly $22 Million.
Maine has not been left out of the cannabis sales record-breaking states this summer. The state’s adult-use sales reached a record high in August, the 4th month in a line.
The $21.6 Million in sales for last month was generated by 377,050 cannabis transactions. Maine has already sold $140.1 million in marijuana for the year 2023, which means that it is on track to surpass its previous total of $159 millions.
The majority of August’s purchase was made up of flower, followed closely by edibles and concentrates. Last month, the average price per gram was $7.83.
A bill signed by the governor could also provide some tax relief to the state’s cannabis industry. Janet Mills’ (D) bill signed last month allows cannabis businesses to deduct state taxes as a partial solution to the Internal Revenue Service code 280E, which prohibits these deductions on the federal level.
In this session the legislature also passed several other cannabis reforms, such as bills championed a GOP rookie lawmaker who was previously a marijuana advocate, in order to protect gun rights of cannabis consumers and increase their personal plant number.
Maine is not the only state in which marijuana sales have broken records.
