Gov. James Humm, the new executive director for the Cannabis Compliance Board, was announced by Joe Lombardo on Tuesday.
Tyler Klimas is the current holder of this position. He is leaving in order to launch a cannabis-and hemp consulting firm. Klimas has a cooling-off period of one year during which he is not allowed to represent certain establishments within the state.
Klimas told a phone call that he had contacted the Governor’s Office in September to inform them of his intention to leave. We’ve been working over the past couple of months on a plan to transition the position. He appointed Jimmy Humm who I am currently with and who will take over.
Lombardo stated in a press release that Jimmy has performed exemplary work as the Director of Economic Development at the Governor’s Office. “I look forward to Jimmy’s nuanced understanding of issues facing state government and business to his new position,” he said.
Jimmy’s contribution to GOED has been invaluable. He will be missed. We appreciate his dedication to serving Nevada and wish him continued success in this exciting new venture: https://t.co/uRcCD4hz34!

Humm joined GOED in 2019, initially as Director Compliance and Regulatory Affairs and, most recently, as Director Public Policy and Government Affairs.
The news released stated that “During Humm’s tenure at GOED he served as the agency’s point person in Nevada Legislature where he passed several economic-development related bills and helped to approve and sign several others.”
He was previously the deputy chief of Staff and Legislative Liaison for the Office of Attorney General. He was also director of operations at a Las Vegas-based law firm.
Humm stated, “I feel humbled and honored that Governor Lombardo has appointed me to this position.” “I am excited to join the team at the Cannabis Compliance Board to implement the governor’s plan to ethically and legally regulate this growing industry.”
