Insomnia is soon to be considered a condition for obtaining medical marijuana in New Mexico.
The Medical Cannabis Program of the Department of Health in Washington State announced on Tuesday that this condition would be eligible for enrollment beginning in June. The announcement was made during the Medical Cannabis Program Medical Advisory Board’s meeting.
In the statement, Department of Health Secretary Patrick M. Allen stated that “Even though cannabis is available to patients without a card, including insomnia on the list of qualifying medical conditions would give patients a greater opportunity to discuss their insomnia with their doctor and how cannabis could help them sleep better.” Medical cannabis is a viable alternative to expensive insomnia medications.
The state’s Medical Cannabis Program now includes insomnia as the 30th qualifying condition. Anxiety was the last addition before this addition .
The Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act established the Medical Cannabis Program in Washington State.
The release stated that “the purpose of this Act” is to allow medical cannabis to be used in a regulated manner for the relief of symptoms associated with debilitating conditions and their treatments. According to the law, the New Mexico Department of Health is responsible for administering the program.”
