The regulators asked a district judge to order Sawmill Sweet Leaf at 1501 Mountain Drive NW, to cease all cannabis-related activities. The Cannabis Control Division says the business is illegally selling cannabis from out-of state and producing cannabis extracts without the proper permits. They say this poses a risk of fire or explosion.
Linda Trujillo said, in a release, that the ability to immediately suspend licenses if they present an immediate danger to consumers’ health, safety and lives is a key part of compliance. While the licensee will still be subject to a formal hearing and receive due process, we are now able to protect New Mexicans from dangerous products or an explosion that could cause serious injury.
KRQE News 13 contacted the cannabis company to get a comment. The website that is listed on Google Maps does not work, and no one answered. Regulators say that this business is not related to any other cannabis businesses with the same name.
Cannabis Control Division can now ask a judge for a preliminary order (i.e. An order to cease business is a relatively recent development. This power was given to the regulators by a new clause in a law that clarified how the state could regulate licenses, such as those for social workers, veterinarians and cannabis.
