September 12, 2023 by Kyle Jaeger

New Mexico’s data show that the state set a record in marijuana sales for August. The combined purchases of cannabis for medical and adult use totaled more than 48 million dollars.

New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department (NMRLD), cannabis reporting portal, shows that recreational marijuana sales were $34,707 557 and medical cannabis sales $13,525,500 last month. This totals $48,233 057.

These numbers are based on 1,095,922 marijuana sales at the 1,021 state-licensed retailers.

Since the launch of each program, medical cannabis and recreational marijuana have been purchased by patients and adults for a total of $724,000,000. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, (D), praised the industry’s sales numbers and the job creation associated to legalization in April.

She didn’t mention whether she bought anything in the first year of the adult-use cannabis market , but didn’t exclude it last year when she visited a cannabis retailer during opening day .

New Mexico has seen a record-breaking increase in marijuana sales over the summer.

Data from the state shows that Connecticut broke another record for marijuana sales in August with 25 million dollars worth of purchases made by medical and adult-use cannabis users.

According to data released by the Office of Cannabis Policy in Maine, marijuana purchases also reached an all-time high of nearly $22,000,000 during August.

The state announced last week that Massachusetts retailers had sold over $5 billion of adult-use marijuana in the five years since the launch of the state’s recreational cannabis market. The state reported that sales reached $139.3 in August, and the total year-to date is $1.05 billion by the end of the first eight months 2023.

Maryland officials announced recently that the state had broken another marijuana sales record last month, with nearly $92 million worth of cannabis product sold during Maryland’s 2nd month of adult-use legal sales.

Illinois retailers sold 140 million dollars worth of recreational marijuana products during July, the highest sales total of the year. This is the second highest monthly amount for Illinois since the adult-use market was launched in 2020.

Michigan marijuana sales hit a new record in July with almost $277 million worth cannabis being sold.

Since the adult-use marijuana market was opened in Missouri in February, Missouri retailers have sold about $4 million of marijuana each day. The state also saw a record $121.2 in cannabis sales in June.

In New Mexico, in April, the governor passed a bill to achieve a major goal of the state’s marijuana legalization legislation by expediting automatic expungements of prior cannabis convictions.

She also vetoed a bill that month, which would have revised sentencing laws to stop people from being imprisoned for simple drug possession.

regulators may see a greater participation in the state’s medical marijuana program now that insomnia has been added to the list of qualifying conditions.

According to a report by the state released in June, workers in New Mexico’s marijuana industry earn more on average than at their previous jobs.
