Rapper Killer Mike suggests giving black people control over marijuana industry as a form of reparations

February 5, 2024 by Ben Adlin

Killer Mike, a rapper from the United States, suggested on the HBO program Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday that Blacks could have control over the marijuana industry in America as a means to repair racial injustice.

Maher stated, “With Native Americans we gave them the Casino industry.” “What about supermarkets?”

Killer Mike replied, “Could Blacks have the marijuana industry?” “Give us marijuana. Multibillion-dollar industry. “It’s fresh and it’s growing.”

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, another guest who appeared on the show last Friday night, expressed his dislike for the idea.

The rapper snorted, gesturing at Sununu’s wretched expression.

Sununu sneered when Maher asked him about general reparations.

Vivek Ramaswamy texted his Taylor Swift playlist to me, he said, placing his finger on his ear. “I haven’t been paying attention.”

(Ramaswamy , for his own part, endorsed federal legalization of cannabis in his appearance on Maher’s podcast.

The New Hampshire Governor clarified, “No, I don’t support reparations.” “I’m against that.”

Sununu played along when Killer Mike asked him jokingly to call Georgia Governor. Brian Kemp (R), who is a Republican, contacted the rapper to inquire about obtaining a license for distributing marijuana in Atlanta.

He asked, “Why does Killer Mike not have a license to grow marijuana in Georgia?” Will you call Brian Kemp on my behalf?

Sununu replied, laughing: “I will call Brian immediately.”

Maher then promoted the West Hollywood marijuana shop he owns with Woody Harrelson. He told Killer Mike that if you were going to purchase marijuana, he would recommend you go to The Woods.

Killer Mike is a long-time advocate of marijuana reform. For example, he has teamed up with other celebrities in order to encourage the Biden Administration to grant pardons to past marijuana crimes.

He challenged the then-elect President Joe Biden in 2020 to adopt the marijuana-legalization plan of Senator Bernie Sanders (I -VT). The rapper has credited the rapper with largely inspiring legalization movement .

Killer Mike was awarded three Grammys on Sunday. However, he was detained that evening following a physical altercation described by police as “physical.”

Sununu, on the other hand, is seen by many as a major barrier to comprehensive cannabis reform in New Hampshire. The governor has called for government-run shops, which critics claim would expose the state’s legal liability to a great extent. He also demanded that no more than fifteen legal stores be allowed in any legalization plan that he receives.

A House committee changed the pending legalization bill late last month to remove a state-run franchising model in favor of a more traditional regulatory system. Some lawmakers warned that the change may sabotage the legalization push if Sununu vetoes the legislation.
