The newly formed Cannabis Control Commission in Rhode Island wants to know your thoughts on marijuana.

The three-member panel is responsible for overseeing the regulation and licensing of medical and recreational marijuana in Rhode Island. Kimberly Ahern , the Commission chair, announced the tour at the panel’s first meeting on June 29,.

Kimberly Ahern, Chair of the Commission, said Thursday that the purpose of the public meetings was to allow the community and the industry to voice their opinions and to have the commissioners listen.

We want to know the public’s opinions, concerns and feedback. This includes those in the cannabis industry, medical patients, and those disproportionately affected by the criminal enforcement of marijuana laws. We must get this right for all.

In 2017, the Massachusetts commission conducted a similar tour.

Four sessions have been scheduled.

  • The session will be held at the Hon. Roger Williams University School of Law on Thursday, July 20. The session will take place in the Hon. The session will be held in the Bruce M. Selya (Room 283) Appellate courtroom at 9:30 am. Participants should enter via the North Campus Entrance, and park on Lot D.
  • Friday, August 4, at 1 p.m. in the Public Utilities Commission, 89 Jefferson Blvd.
  • Wednesday, August 9, at 5 pm at the Southside Cultural Center, 393 Broad St. in Providence.
  • Cannabis Control Commissioners are present for a virtual session at the PUC Warwick on Friday, 18th August at 1pm. Public is invited to attend the meeting in person, but Zoom allows them to participate virtually. Online links to Zoom will be made available.
