Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura wants to become the “first major American politician” to have his likeness on a marijuana product. This is now possible, as the State implements its new Cannabis Legalization Law.
Ventura has been a long-time advocate of marijuana reform, and she appeared alongside current Gov. Tim Walz (D), who signed Minnesota’s Legalization Bill in may, spoke on Saturday about his personal experience and future ambitions with cannabis. He also said that Minnesota was positioned to produce the “best marijuana in the world.”
“I want to be involved in this.” Ventura stated, “I want to be involved in Minnesota.” “Minnesota-grown, Minnesota-produced and promoted by Minnesota Governor, or former governor.”
He said: “I want to be the very first politician in America to put his face, likeness and all behind cannabis.” This is an ego issue for me. I want my name to be associated with cannabis.
He said that the reason is because he wants to “see Minnesota succeed here”, and not have out-of-state companies dominate the market.
The former wrestler and governor said, “I’d prefer to do Minnesota. I would put my name on Minnesota companies. And make cannabis an incredibly profitable business in Minnesota run by Minnesotans. This will keep the money in Minnesota.” “We have always been a great farming state. Minnesota is a great state for agriculture. We can grow corn and wheat, but we also have the best cannabis. “There’s no doubt that we can also do that.”
Ventura, who is a Navy veteran and a member of the group, said that he does not believe in the medical marijuana versus recreational cannabis dichotomy. He also shared Tommy Chong’s view that “the whole plant is medicinal, no matter what it’s used for.”
Ventura, who is a registered Minnesota medical cannabis user, said that he vapes marijuana to treat post-traumatic anxiety and non-specific neuropathy, a condition which causes numbness, discomfort, and tingling in the feet. He said marijuana helped him sleep through the discomfort.
His passion for reform was brought to the forefront decades ago when his wife was diagnosed with a severe seizure disorder and was prescribed traditional pharmaceuticals which did not work. He described how he broke the law by taking his wife to Colorado before Minnesota had legalized medical marijuana and buying cannabis oil from a close friend.
He claimed that the former First Lady never had another seizure after she started taking cannabis. Ventura said that health insurance companies will pay for “pharmaceuticals that do nothing, but won’t cover cannabis.”
In February , the former governor shared his wife’s story about cannabis treatment during an impassioned hearing of a Senate Committee regarding the legalization bill which is currently being implemented.
Ventura is not the only Minnesota former elected official who’s considering a move into the legal cannabis industry. The former House Majority leader Ryan Winkler announced in January that he planned to launch a line THC-infused drinks .

In Minnesota, under the newly-enacted law, adult residents 21 years and older can now grow and possess marijuana for personal use. State officials are also implementing the automatic expungement of prior cannabis records.
Other key components are now in effect, even though traditional recreational cannabis retail outlets will not open until next year. On Tuesday, a Indian tribal group launched the first state-wide marijuana sales for adults.
It also created the Office of Cannabis Management, which was launched last month. The primary regulatory body will be responsible for overseeing the market. The governor is actively looking for an executive director.
The Cannabis Expungement Board is another body which has been established. It will facilitate the sealing of records for those with marijuana convictions in their record. The review of eligible cases began on Tuesday.
Before Walz even signed the reform law, the state created a website to serve as a central hub of information on the new law. Officials are also soliciting vendors who can help create a licensing system.
