(NEXSTAR ) – Nearly a half of the U.S. have legalized recreational marijuana, and states in the Northeast are the latest to do so. Marijuana use is still not widely legalized despite efforts from other states.
Voters in several states have approved the recreational use of marijuana by 2022. A few other states are hoping to join this list.
Oklahoma voters rejected legalizing recreational marijuana in march. was defeated by Indiana voters in early April. supporters have sign a petition in order to add a constitutional amendment concerning marijuana legalization to Florida ballots by 2024.
Nine states have approved the use of CBD products and those low in THC, even though they haven’t yet legalized marijuana as a recreational or medicinal drug. Kentucky was previously one of those states, and it has since made medical marijuana legal.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, three states, Idaho, Nebraska and Kansas, have no public programs at all.
Recent surveys have found Americans prefer legal cannabis to legal tobacco. In a CDC survey, 57% said that they would support a ban on the sale of tobacco. 59% said in a Pew Research poll that marijuana should be legalized for both medical and recreational purposes.
