The U.S. Senate approved a spending measure that included a provision allowing Department of Veterans Affairs physicians to recommend medical cannabis to veterans. In July, the House passed similar language, though slightly different.
In a letter to constituents, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer (D) said it was his “moral duty” to include criminal justice provisions in a marijuana banking legislation. He cited expungements and sentencing provisions that were part of his separate legalization bill. Republicans want to vote on the floor despite uncertainty caused by the election of Mike Johnson (R-LA), a new anti-cannabis House speaker.
The House Rules Committee is set to consider an amendment by Reps. Robert Garcia, (D-CA), and Earl Blumenauer, (DOR), that would prohibit the Department of Justice interfering in state and local psilocybin medical laws.
The Drug Enforcement Administration has proposed a massive increase of manufacturing marijuana components, such as delta-9 THC and other forms of Tetrahydrocannabinol in 2024. The announcement comes just days after the Drug Enforcement Administration announced that it would increase THC and psychedelic levels in 2023.
Sherrod Brown, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee (D-OH), revealed that he voted for marijuana legalization on Ohio’s ballot – though he admitted it was a “hard decision”.
The Lubbock city secretary has certified that enough signatures have been collected by activists to place a decriminalization measure on the ballot in the event local legislators do not enact reforms themselves.
The Marijuana Justice Coalition, along with the Cannabis Freedom Alliance –which represents advocacy groups from different political ends of the spectrum, ranging from ACLU and Americans for Prosperity to the ACLU–sent a message urging President Joe Biden not to just reschedule marijuana but to completely deschedule it.

The study concluded that, “comparisons between the self-reported effects and conventional sleep aids revealed participants felt more refreshed, focused and better able function the morning after using marijuana for sleep, than after using conventional sleepaids or no sleepaids”; however, “they indicated that they were more sleepy and anxious in the mornings after using cannabis relative to other sleeping aids.”
