Where You Can Legally Consume in New Mexico

Buying is the easy part. Consumption is where New Mexico's rules are narrower than most people assume, especially for renters and visitors.
Private property
A private residence with the owner's permission is the default legal setting. Landlords and HOAs may prohibit smoking, and many leases do.
Licensed consumption areas
The state licenses cannabis consumption areas. These are the only public-facing venues where on-site use is legal. Our directory has a consumption lounge filter.
Never legal
Streets, sidewalks, parks, schools, vehicles (driver or passenger), federal land including national parks and monuments, and any tribal land that has not legalized.
Hotels and rentals
Treat every hotel as non-smoking unless it explicitly says otherwise; cleaning fees are steep. Short-term rentals vary by host — ask in writing before you book.
